Early Signs of Pregnancy

Discovering you're pregnant can bring a rush of emotions, and recognizing the signs early is important. Some common early signs of pregnancy are:

Missed Period

The most noticeable early sign for many women is the absence of their period, although some women may experience light bleeding or spotting.

Nausea (Morning Sickness)

Many women experience nausea or vomiting, especially in the first trimester. While it’s commonly referred to as "morning sickness," it can happen at any time of day.

Fatigue

Feeling unusually tired or drained is a common early symptom, due to hormonal changes that prepare your body for pregnancy.

Mild Cramping or Spotting

Some women notice light cramping or spotting when the fertilized egg implants in the uterus. This can be confused with a light period, but it’s typically much lighter than a regular menstrual flow.

Tender Breasts

Your breasts may feel swollen, sore, or tender to the touch due to increased hormone levels.

Food Cravings or Aversions

Pregnant women often experience changes in their taste preferences, such as craving certain foods or developing aversions to others.

Mood Swings

Hormonal fluctuations in early pregnancy can cause emotional changes, including mood swings or irritability.

These early pregnancy signs can also be caused by other factors, so it's important not to jump to conclusions based solely on these symptoms. To be sure, the next step is to take a pregnancy test.

Taking a Pregnancy Test at Home

Home pregnancy tests are a good first step. They work by detecting hCG, the hormone your body produces once pregnancy begins. For the most accurate results, test around the time you miss your period and carefully follow the instructions on the package. If the result is positive—or if you’re unsure—our professional medical team can help confirm it.

Confirm Your Pregnancy with Medical-Grade Testing

At PSS, we offer free, professional-grade pregnancy tests that are more accurate than most over-the-counter options. Our trained staff provides results you can trust, answers your questions, and connects you with resources for what comes next.

If you are eligible, we also provide free ultrasounds to give you important early information about your pregnancy.

Warm Welcome

You’ll be greeted, offered a snack or drink, and given a comfortable space to settle in and fill out some basic paperwork. You’ll provide a urine sample so we can provide a medical-grade pregnancy test.

Private Conversation

You’ll meet with a client advocate who listens without judgment. Together, you’ll talk through your questions, needs, and the resources available to you.

Medical Care

You’ll receive a free medical-grade pregnancy test, and if eligible, an ultrasound from a trained nurse — so you can leave with clarity and confidence.

Ongoing Support

If you’d like, we’ll stay connected with you after your appointment through classes, baby showers, resources, and check-ins. Sometimes that means practical help like maternity clothes or healthcare connections; other times it’s simply being there to celebrate milestones; or support you through tough moments.
